2017 Summer Reading Program
Hello StG Family,
Welcome to our Required Summer Reading Program! Each StG Charger is to read 2 assigned books---but hopefully, they will read many, many, many more books this summer to keep their brain from getting mushy, to go on GREAT adventures, and to expand their knowledge! Students in 4th through 8th grade have a choice of 3 novels, but they must choose 2 to read. (Seriously, I am hoping they read all 3!).
Each student is responsible for 2 projects. There is a different project for each title. Students should complete these projects and have them ready to turn in the first week of school next year. Each project will count as a homework grade for the first quarter.
In addition, students in 2nd through 8th grade will need to take the Accelerated Reader quizzes for both novels within the first 2 weeks of school. Teachers will take their classes to the computer labs to take the Star Reading Test and the Star Math Tests. During this time, students may also take the AR quizzes for the summer reading novels.
Upper Unit students will also take a written test on the two novels they choose to read, during the first 2 weeks of school.
We all know that reading strengthens our mind, increases our vocabulary, and helps us learn, learn, learn, and learn some more.
Some children may need assistance with reading their novels. Please add time to your summer schedule to help your children, and share those precious moments where you read together--- because they grow up and go away too soon.
Questions regarding Pk4 to 5th grade reading may be emailed to Mrs. Newman-Caro (StG Librarian) firstname.lastname@example.org. , Mrs. Margaret Moreno (SFA/Reading Specialist) email@example.com, or Ms. Sandra Rosales (SFA/Academic Interventionist) firstname.lastname@example.org.
Questions regarding Upper Unit (6th-8th) reading may be emailed to Mrs. Suzette Gimbel (UU Literature Teacher) email@example.com.
Have a blessed summer and Happy Reading to All!
-in my prayers,
