Irish Dance Club
The St. Gregory the Great Irish Dancers began in 2001 and is the longest running Encore club at the school. It began with a handful of students and now has an enrollment of 20 dancers. Many of the students remain in the group until they graduate from 8th grade. The purpose of our Irish Dance Class is twofold – to involve the students in an activity that is enjoyable, demands self-discipline and helps to build self-esteem, and to provide a service to the local community by performing at nursing homes and retirement centers as well as at school and church functions. Our dance group has brought much joy to the hearts of many over the years.
It is also important for the students to expand their global awareness by learning about and appreciating a different culture. As the students learn the various dances, they also learn the differences in the music used for each dance. The Irish dancers are very committed to the program and are wonderful ambassadors for St. Gregory the Great Catholic School.
